The My Grandparents’ Kitchen workshops were designed to provide information about the relationships people from disenfranchised areas in the region had with cooking. The Lehigh Valley has a large Latinx population, so it was decided that each of the five workshops be conducted in the kitchen of the South Bethlehem Hispanic Center. Each workshop highlighted the food of two to three Caribbean, Central American, or South American cultures. The participants were all either first or second generation immigrants, and the recipes they shared were meals they would typically cook on a regular basis with ingredients they can find at local supermarkets.
